There’s no denying that in home newborn photography is a special kind of storytelling! As a lifestyle newborn photographer based in Eugene Oregon, I feel so honored when families invite me into their homes, to meet their newest little love, and document this amazing time for them.

Reasons to book an in home newborn session:

1. It’s intimate and comfortable. Seriously, in home newborn photography makes newborn photos SO EASY! I come to you. So you don’t have to load baby up and go anywhere. You don’t have to pack back up outfits. You’ll notice in these images that we changed her headband. Then she needed a diaper change so dad changed her outfit and she got another headband. In home newborn sessions have a natural vibe and are baby led.
2. You can include your fur babies. If you’re an animal lover, chances are your fur babes were your first babies. Being able to document them in this period of time is incredibly special. These new parents were so happy to include their fur baby Stella in their newborn photos. Their pooch is a big part of their family and will be one of their daughters best friends. Including pets in newborn photos is a huge perk of in home newborn photography.
3. In home newborn photography has a true lifestyle feel. Personally, I love the way in home sessions tell a families authentic story. They capture your babies first home and documents their first bedroom. The way you carefully picked a theme and hung art. These moments tell your new babies story and will be cherished for decades to come.

Finding the best location in your house for newborn photos

I love in home newborn photos in the nursery, living room, or master bedroom. Here are a few things to keep in mind when finding the best location in your house for your session:

• Your session is dependent on light. A large window with good natural light is a must!
• Paint colors on the walls may cast color tones. White walls are the best for color tone. White helps reflect light and cast less shadows or color tones. Colored walls may cast a color tone.
• Rid the space of clutter and electrical cords. You do not need to clean your home for your newborn photos. I mean you just had a baby, you need all the rest you can get! But doing a quick tidy to reduce noticeable clutter and distracting cords will keep the focus on your beautiful family.

What to expect during your newborn session in your home

My goal during in coming to your home for newborn photos is for your session to be as easy and stress-free as possible! Once you book your newborn session, I will email you my newborn guide. This contains helpful tips for preparing for your newborn session. It also includes styling assistance and session flow.

When I arrive to your home, I will typically chat with you first. Ask how you’re all doing, scope out the lighting in each room, and help with any last minute outfit selections. Some of my favorite outfits for baby are muslin swaddle blankets. You can find super cute swaddles at The Little Unicorn, Aden & Ananis, and Solly Baby. Babies also photograph well in solid or pastel colored onesies or sleepers. You can find endless options in stores or online but my favorites are from Angel Dear and Little Sleepies.

Once we get starting taking photos, I’ll prompt and direct you to cuddle up and love on your sweet little baby. This is where you have the opportunity to be yourselves. You may laugh, breath in your baby, and even cry. I love lifestyle newborn photography because it is all about telling your authentic story. There’s no pressure for baby to be asleep or unnaturally posed.

Sessions are baby led. They are typically up to two hours, but depending on your babies demeanor could be shorted. This allows time for feeding your baby, changing diapers and outfits, and soothing baby as needed. I love to dedicate a portion of in home newborn sessions to emotive details. This may be babies teeny tiny toes, fingers, nose, and ears. It may also be time for baby nursing or having a bottle. These are the little moments that bring big joy for years to come. I will ask about your comfort levels prior to your session by sending you a questionnaire. This will help me plan the flow of your session. We will focus on getting images of your family together, each parent with baby, and baby individually. We will also include time for older siblings or pets if applicable.
